My Monumental Dreams of the Construction of the Suramadu Bridge Strenuous endeavors to change the features of Madura Island to be a corporated industrial island has been an ardent dream of the indigenous Madurese society and the people of East Java and I have also kept the dream. My first steps to this goal was to attend a national seminar titled “ Subsuming an Industrial Era in Madura” , held on 13-14 January 1992 in BPD Jatim Surabaya, attended by Prof. DR. Ing. B.J. Habibie delegated by Mr. Rahardi Ramelan, Mr. Moh. Noer, previous Governor of East Java, and others. I myself represented PT. E2C Laboratories - Environmental/ Engineering Consultants/ Analytical Laboratories from the USA because beside aiming an industrial target, the impacts of these tremendous changes, it absolutely will also change the environment, ecology ruptures etc. In anticipation of this tremendousness, by that time in 1992 PT. E2C had established a very sophisticated laboratory completed with perfectly stipulated American standard to observe any impacts on the environment; as well to provide engineering consultations, together with consequential American business enterprises and PT. Pakerin Surabaya. If we cast our viewpoints on Madura, we could see the immense potentials concealed on this island. About its tourism, there are royal graveyards with sublime historical values, graveyards of Moslem leaders, that could entice Moslem believers from all over the world to explore the Moslem tracks into Madura. Lombang Beach with its very soft white sands, all along magnificently decorated with pine trees, its habitants living in their houses also on these delicate white sands. A plantation with pine bonsais of the best and export quality. Its boundless coastlines are just perfect for shrimp and other seafood farming. Its shipyard must be improved to be able to build more sophisticated ships to color our ocean. We have not succumbed to any obstacle yet, our dreams of a brilliant, beaming, luminous Madura is just dormant because ever since the beginning, now and forever we certainly will struggle towards those aims and targets even though with just one pebble in its construction and to the spectacular dream of this “ salt island” .
